Mr. South Africa 2010 Johannesburg semi-finalist, Helgard Marais facilitated an outing for the Ons Huis Trust residents to the Monte Casino Bird Gardens for a day of sun and laughter.

“People always say animals are our best friends, and today I could just see how true that was as these the young peoples’ faces lit up with every different bird they saw and the amazement and excitement to learn how intelligent these birds really are.” Marais said.

The Ons Huis Adults were treated for lunch and Chris of Café Fego sponsored a large milk shake for each one after the excitement of the Gardens to finish of the day perfectly. Marais said that he had a new found respect for people who care for individuals like these, as it takes a special dedication to do so.
“Elsie van der Walt, the General Manager and Rolien Brink, Activity Manager of Ons Huis amazed me today, with their unconditional care, patients and love for these people that are in there care, treating each one as a unique individual. It takes a rare and very special person, like these two women to dedicate their time and care to look after these young people so well.” Helgard said.
